Exam Description

The 642-105 IUM Implementing Cisco Unified Messaging exam tests a candidate's knowledge of how to install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot Cisco Unified Messaging. Candidates can prepare for this exam by taking the AUM and IUM Administering Cisoc Unified Messaging and Implementing Cisco Unified Messaging courses.

Special Prerequisite

Cisco Unity Support Specialist can install, configure, operate and maintain a Cisco Unified Messaging 5.0 system in both stand-alone voice mail and unified messaging environments. It is highly recommended that candidates for certification also have experience and knowledge in Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino and Linux environments.

Install Cisco Unity System to meet end-user requirements

  • Use the Cisco Unity Installation and Configuration Assistant to install the Unity System on a Microsoft Server
  • Set up the appropriate Microsoft Windows server components to support Cisco Unity System in either a voicemail or unified messaging environment.
  • Use the Cisco Unity Server Preparation Assistant to prepare and validate the server readiness for the Unity System installation.
  • Choose the appropriate desktop messaging interface for client machines based on customer requirements (IMAP, Inbox, vmo, duc)
  • List the steps to perform a Cisco Unity System installation.
  • Set up the appropriate integration between Cisco Unity and a telophone system

Configure Cisco Messaging Systems to customer requirements

  • Configure Cisco Unity global settings to meet requirements.
  • Configure telephone user interface account policies, subscriber classes of service, and subscriber templates to prepare system for user account entry.
  • Add new users to the Cisco Messaging System and verify functionality
  • Import user accounts into the Cisco Messaging System and verify functionality.
  • Configure autoattendant, voicemail and audiotext applications to meet requirements.
  • Configure Cisco Unity digital networking.
  • Configure voice recognition
  • Explain the necessary configuration options to provide for system failover

Configure Cisco Unity System to interopt with other messaging systems

  • Configure Cisco Unity delivery location objects to communicate with other messaging systems
  • Use configuration manager utility to setup and add interoperability accounts to either an Exchange or Domino messaging server.
  • Test and verify the interoperability of the Unity System with the non-Cisco messaging system.
  • Configure Cisco Unity Connection to interopt with Cisco Unity
  • Configure networking subscribers

Maintain an installed Cisco Messaging System

  • Use Disaster and Recovery Tools to perform backup and restore procedures.
  • Use appropriate utilities to optimize data base performance.
  • Apply service packs and virus patches as appropriate.
  • Perform system and feature upgrades as necessary.
  • Use appropriate reports and utilities to maintain a properly functioning Cisco Unity System.

Troubleshoot and repair Cisco Messaging System installations

  • Use the appropriate reports and utilities to troubleshoot Cisco Messaging System problems.
  • Take the appropriate steps to repair identified Cisco Messaging System failures.
  • Test and verify Cisco Messaging System configuration changes.

Administer Cisco Messaging Servers

  • Generate and interpret Cisco Messaging Server reports.
  • Use appropriate Cisco Messaging Server utilities to perform moves, adds and changes
